We’ve seen a real uptick in signatures collected during the past few weeks. Given that, the campaign has decided to extend the final timeline for turning in signatures from April 10 to April 24. The campaign team has researched this and determined that the April 24 due date still allows us to have all of the signatures submitted to local county registrars in time to qualify for the November ballot.
Extending the deadline gives us an opportunity to keep the momentum and make an even bigger push for additional signatures in April.
Hooray for Spring — but spring breaks have been a timing challenge. We know many of our units, councils and districts have petitions and commitments already out in the field, and this will provide extra time to make sure all of those get turned in and counted. Additionally, there are many upcoming events and fundraisers in local communities around the state where we can continue to collect signatures to boost our overall numbers. Remember: Our Children, Our Future is in many respects the biggest PTA fundraiser ever!
Between now and April 24, we urge you to continue the good work. In addition to contacting friends and families, we are having excellent success with tables out in front of schools (off school property) and out in front of other off-campus events. Many PTAs report collecting hundreds of signatures very quickly by setting up a table. They also use the Our Children, Our Future fillable signs to show how much funding their particular schools would receive through the initiative.
Updated Resources
In response to your requests we’ve updated the Frequently Asked Questions document, to include answers to some of the toughest questions you hear. These questions and answers were shared on the recent conference call update by Carol Kocivar and Molly Munger.
We’ve also updated the Side by Side Chart to describe the key components of the Our Children, Our Future education initiative and the new version of the Governor’s initiative.
